Stonington — A 55-year-old mentally disabled man was rescued from the Mystic River after he fell off an inner tube behind a cottage at 24 Roseleah Drive.

Matthew Dory said the man has been in his wife's care for more than 10 years. He said the man slipped off the tube, struggled and started to go under.

Dory said he pulled him out the water. He said the man never lost consciousness, but was taken to the Pequot Health Center to remove water from his lungs.
