New England Science & Sailing presents a lecture by Laura Dekker, a 16-year-old sailor who sailed more than 27,000 nautical miles solo, on Thursday, Oct. 11, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Dekker will describe her solo circumnavigation aboard GUPPY, a 30-year-old 38-foot Jeanneau Ginfizz ketch. The presentation will include photos from her voyage and a pre-release video, which features footage of species she encountered around the world.

Dekker's trip included stops at the Canary Islands, Panama, the Galapagos Islands, Tonga, Fiji, Bora Bora, Australia, South Africa and finally St. Maarten, from where she set out on Jan. 20, 2011.

NESS is at 70 Water St., Stonington. A contribution will be requested at the door. For more information, call (860) 535-9362.
