Recently, my son and I visited the WWII aircraft exhibit at Groton-New London airport. As a B-24 bomber crew member in 1942 I was remembering how that old bomber (very similar to the one we were looking at) brought me home safely.

We were looking at the bombsight/bombardier location on the aircaft when a young man named Russell began asking questions about the plane. He soon left and we completed our tour. As we headed toward the exit gate Russell approached us. He handed me a B-24 baseball cap and thanked me for my service in the Air Force.

Russell, not only did you make an old vet proud, you made my day.
