I was surprised your Oct. 9 editorial, "Windfall from NL colleges unlikely," mentioned the state PILOT funding New London receives for hosting the Coast Guard Academy yet didn't mention additional PILOT funding New London receives for hosting Connecticut College, Mitchell College and Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.

According to the most recent data we received from the state Office of Policy and Management - reported to Connecticut College via the Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges - in fiscal 2012, New London should have received $1,952,600 in PILOT funding because it is home to Connecticut College and an additional $343,609 in Pequot funding because it is home to Connecticut College - a total of $2,296,209 to New London for Connecticut College.

Yes, it's a public service that enriches our lives and deepens our understanding of issues.
Yes, it's a minuscule fraction of our budget. This is a silly conservative talking point, not a real issue.
No, my tax dollars shouldn't go to paying the salaries of liberals at NPR and PBS.
