Advances to third round of NCAA men's soccer tourney

Storrs - Mamadou Doudou Diouf scored his 14th goal of the season as the UConn men's soccer team beat Northeastern 1-0 Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Division I tournament.

Diouf, a junior forward, scored as 23:36. George Fochive had an assist and Andre Blake made two saves for UConn (16-3-1), which hosts the winner of the late game between Virginia and New Mexico next Sunday in a third-round game.

Women's basketball

• Tara Gabelman had 13 rebounds and three blocked shots to help lead Connecticut College to a 52-27 win over Simmons in the consolation game of the Eastern Connecticut State Tip-Off tournament. Willa McKinley came off the bench to score a game-high 15 points, Carlee Smith had five assists and Gabelman scored nine points for Conn (1-1). McKinley was named to the all-tournament team.

• Trinity jumped out to a 36-15 halftime lead and went on to beat Mitchell College 85-39 in the consolation game of the Brandeis Invitational. Kaylee Cerruto scored 14 points and Amanda Garcia had seven rebounds for Mitchell (0-3).

Men's basketball

• UConn-Avery Point lost to Massasoit, 67-53, Saturday. Philkwan Tate led the Pointers (2-3) with 15 points and eight rebounds.

H.S. football

• Thanksgiving Day tickets for the annual Ledyard-Fitch game in Groton will be sold in advance at both schools today and Tuesday. Tickets will be available both days in the Ledyard main office from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. and at the Fitch auditorium from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Advance ticket prices are $5 for adults and $2 for students and seniors. General admission tickets on Thanksgiving are $5.
