Norwich — Saturday’s Winterfest Parade, scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m., will bring a parking ban and temporary traffic rerouting beginning around 9 a.m. and continuing until 4 p.m.
The parade, which will start on Broadway near Chelsea Parade, will take the following route: south on Broadway, turn east onto Broad Street, turn south on McKinley Avenue, continue south on Franklin Street, travel through Franklin Square, west on Main Street to Broadway, past City Hall and concluding at Willow Street.
At 10 a.m., the area around Chelsea Parade and Broadway from Rockwell Street to Washington Street will be closed to facilitate setup for the marching units in the parade. Those attending Park Church need only identify themselves for access.
Parking areas and garages on lower Main Street, Market Street, Chelsea Harbor Drive and Broadway across from City Hall will be accessible both prior to and during the parade. Motorists are encouraged to use these facilities.
The following are no parking areas on Saturday: Washington Street, east side adjacent to Chelsea Parade; Chelsea Parade North, both sides entire length; Crescent Street, both sides from Chelsea Parade South to Broadway; Chelsea Parade South, both sides entire length; Broadway, both sides from Broad Street to Washington Street; Broadway, east side from Otis Street to Main Street; Broad Street, both sides from Broadway to McKinley Avenue; McKinley Avenue, both sides from Broad Street to Franklin Street; Franklin Street, both sides from McKinley Avenue to Franklin Square; Main Street, both sides from Burnham Square to Shannon Corner.
Beginning at 12:30 p.m., the entire parade route will be closed to traffic. Those streets include: Main Street, from Burnham Square (Route 12) to Courthouse Square; Franklin Street, from McKinley Avenue to Franklin Square; McKinley Avenue, from Franklin Street to Broad Street; Broad Street, from McKinley Avenue to Broadway; Broadway, from Crescent Street to Broad Street; Cliff Street, from Main Street to Hawthorne and Park streets; Union Street, accessible to residents only/Union Square closed; and Church Street, accessible to residents only/Union Square closed.
