Groton – Darnay Gray's 20-yard touchdown run with 4:08 remaining rallied Ledyard to a dramatic 28-27 victory over Fitch on Thanksgiving morning.
The go-ahead TD, Gray's second of the game, came one play after Jordan Kowalski recovered a fumble. The Colonels overcame a 27-14 deficit to beat the Falcons for the fifth straight year.
Ledyard finishes 7-3, failing to make the Class M playoffs while Fitch is 8-2 and will unoffically open the Class L playoffs as the No. 7 seed and visit No. 2 Windsor in Tuesday's quarterfinals.
Saffwan Davis scored three touchdowns for Fitch while Ledyard quarterback John Rainey, who did not play the first three quarters, came off the bench in the fourth and threw a TD pass to Chevy Perry just 25 seconds before Gray's game-winning score.
How far from home will you travel for Thanksgiving this year?
