Montville -- A fire destroyed a daycare center on Old Colchester in the Oakdale section of town Monday night.

Firefighters were called to Creative Care Daycare, 1127 Old Colchester Road, about 5:45 p.m. No one was in the building at the time of the fire, which was brought under control in about 30 minutes.

“The building is a total loss,’’ said Oakdale Fire Chief Gary Murphy.

The state fire marshal’s office was at the scene Monday night to investigate the cause.

Neighboring departments -- Gardner Lake, Colchester, East Great Plains in Norwich, Salem and Bozrah -- sent equipment to the scene as part of a mutual aid tanker task force division, Murphy said. All four town departments were also at the scene.

There were no injuries, Murphy said.

The fire was reported by an automatic fire alarm company just as firefighters were finishing putting out a brush fire behind St. Bernard High School.

Murphy said all four town departments were at the brush fire for about three hours Monday afternoon before the fire was extinguished.
