Preston – Teachers and staff at the town’s two public schools will try their hands as waiters, waitresses and restaurant bus staff Dec. 5 in a fundraiser for a family of three girls whose father has Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Staff from Preston Veterans’ Memorial School and Preston Plains Middle School will volunteer to serve dinners at the Village Pizza restaurant in the Fleming’s Plaza on Route 165 in Preston from 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 5.

Village Pizza will donate a portion of the profits from both sit-down and take-out meals during that time, and school staff will donate all tips to the Irvine family, said organizer Gail Smith, database manager and administrative assistant at Veterans' Memorial.

Smith said at least 10 staff members have volunteered to participate, and a basket raffle fundraiser is being planned for the event as well.
