Complaints about insurance companies netted the state and policyholders $2.3 million in the third quarter of this year, the state Insurance Department reported.
About $1.2 million was recouped from July through September by policyholders who filed more than 1,500 complaints. Another $1.1 million came to the state in the form of fines for problems ranging from untimely claim payments to improper licensing.
So far this year, the department has recovered more than $6.3 million for policyholders and taxpayers.
About half of the recoveries last quarter, more than $677,000, were for accident and health insurance. For information, go to www.ct.gov/cid.
