The Groton Public Library has been selected as a book distribution site for the second annual World Book Night, scheduled for April 23. World Book Night is an annual celebration designed to encourage reading and an appreciation for books. Volunteers are being recruited to give away books.

World Book Night books are specially produced, not-for-resale paperbacks. Participants will receive 20 copies of the same book - a book they can select from a list of 30 titles. They then distribute the books in public settings such as nursing homes, food pantries, low-income schools or on mass transit.

Volunteer book givers must be 16 or older.

The application process must be completed at www.us.worldbooknight.org.

Applications are due by Jan. 23. Contact the library at (860) 441-6750 for more information.
