Stonington crackdown results in 100 seat belt citations

Stonington —During its recent Click It or Ticket Campaign from Dec. 3-16, police here cited motorists for 100 seat belt violations, 15 cell phone violations and 15 unregistered motor vehicles violation.

In addition they issued tickets and made arrests for numerous other motor vehicle violations. The enforcement occurred as officers conducted a number of checkpoints throughout the town,

Police said that after the campaign, a survey of drivers showed a 10 percent increase in those wearing seat belts compared to before the campaign.

Police said they will continue to aggressively undertake proactive efforts to ensure traffic safety.
