The founder of a French pharmaceutical company is being investigated for possible criminal sanctions after serious health concerns were detected among patients using the now-withdrawn diabetes drug Mediator.

The investigation could eventually lead to manslaughter charges against 90-year-old Louis Servier, founder of Servier Laboratories, who had to post bail of nearly $100,000. Reuters reports that the diabetes drug is being tied to at least 500 deaths worldwide, most of them in France, which charges that Servier misled authorities about the drug's dangers.

Six subsidiaries of Servier are also under investigation and have been told to pay millions of dollars in fines.

The NRA has proposed stationing an armed officer in every U.S. school as a way to defend against mass shootings like the one at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. Do you support the NRA's proposal?
Yes, it's a sensible plan. An armed officer would serve as a deterrent and he or she would be able to stop an active gunman before more lives were lost.
No, I'm disappointed the NRA didn't come out with any serious suggestions.
Armed officers would help, but we also need stronger gun control laws.
