Time to place limits on outdated right

It has become apparent that the safety of the American citizen has been jeopardized by the failure to alter the Second Amendment and by the pressure of gun lobbyists and politicians to enforce this outdated right.

At the time this Amendment was ratified in 1791 there were roughly 5 million people living in the country. It declares, a well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. It was created to ensure that the federal government should not have any authority at all to disarm the citizenry and gave us protection against an oppressive government.

In 2012 the U.S. population has grown to more than 312 million. We no longer use the single-shot muskets used in 1791 but instead have graduated to much more sophisticated methods of destruction, i.e. assault rifles.

It is time that we as a nation look at the mounting gun violence based statistics and address the issue of true gun reform.

How many senseless killings must we as citizens be subjected to before anything is done?
