I read with dismay the approval for Thayer Marine to expand their retail business to include the sale of guns and rifles in Norwich. The Thayer family is a hard working family and enjoys their deserved high reputation in the community. This is no time to allow the sale of guns and rifles in our communities in New London County. I hope the Thayer family will not get involved with the sale of guns and rifles.

What was the Norwich commission thinking when it unanimously voted to allow the sale of guns and rifles? Were they blind to the tragedy in Newtown?

The NRA has proposed stationing an armed officer in every U.S. school as a way to defend against mass shootings like the one at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. Do you support the NRA's proposal?
Yes, it's a sensible plan. An armed officer would serve as a deterrent and he or she would be able to stop an active gunman before more lives were lost.

No, I'm disappointed the NRA didn't come out with any serious suggestions.

Armed officers would help, but we also need stronger gun control laws.
