CD release party for Straight to VHS

Published December 27. 2012 4:00AM

The next time Jon Young hears the Grateful Dead croon "What a long, strange trip it's been," don't blame him if he punches the jukebox.

Young is the singer/songwiter/guitarist of the fine New London garage/punk outfit, Straight to VHS - and a three-year cycle of frustrations, as they tried to get their debut album out, has indeed been a frustratingly long, strange trip.

What's important, though, is that "Rewinder" is finished and available to melt your ears like candle wax. The band will play a CD release party on Saturday at the Bank Street Cafe, and copies of "Rewinder" will be available for sale. Kindred acts A Honey Wagon and We Got Mouths will also appear.

Straight to VHS CD release party, 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Bank Street Cafe, 639 Bank St., New London; $5; (860) 444-1444.
