Jewett City Bank Foundations donates to food pantries

Published December 29. 2012 4:00AM

Kevin C. Merchant, president of the Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation, has announced that $10,700 was awarded to four area food pantries in the foundation's most recent round of funding. The awards were presented at a reception held recently in Griswold.

A Foundation grant of $4,600 will help restock the shelves at the St. Mary Food Pantry in Jewett City, where an average of 100 families are served each month. In Danielson, the Friends of Assisi Food Pantry will use the foundation's $3,500 donation to help provide food, diapers and vouchers for produce at local farmers' markets. The Preston City Congregational Church food pantry will use its $2,100 foundation grant to provide basic food items and vouchers for farm produce, and Pomfret's $500 food pantry award will help restock shelves with nonperishable food items for those residents seeking assistance.

Jewett City Savings Bank operates offices in Jewett City, Brooklyn, Dayville, Central Village and Preston.
