Norwich - The Dime Bank Foundation has announced that it will be awarding more than $55,000 to non-profit organizations in New London County and Westerly.
Some of the top recipients for the first of the foundation's three annual awards are the Westerly Area Rest Meals, $6,500; Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Connecticut, $5,555; Hospice of Southeastern Connecticut, $5,000, and Alliance for Living, $5,000.

Dime Bank established the Dime Bank Foundation, which annually supports more than 40 local organizations and gives away an average of $155,000. The foundation, established in 1998, focuses on charitable, cultural, literary, scientific and educational nonprofit organizations and pays particular attention to programs and activities aimed at community members who are most at-risk.
So far, the foundation's grants have totaled more than $1.4 million.
