Norwich offering help with filing returns, applying for tax credits

Norwich - The city's Human Services Departent will help to complete income tax returns at no cost to low and moderate income city residents.

Those earning $50,000 or less are eligible. Staff and volunteers are certified by the IRS to complete federal and state returns. The program strives to help families apply for federal Earned Income Tax Credits, which could bring refunds of up to $5,891 per family.

The state Earned Income Tax Credit could be as high as $3,169. Families and individuals may apply at Norwich Human Services, 80 Broadway. Senior Citizens also may apply at the Rose City Senior Center.

Norwich Human Services will take applications beginning Tuesday through April 10.

Daytime appointments may be made for Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Evening appointments are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
