Branford High School (BHS) alumnus and outstanding Texas Ranger rookie Mike Olt will talk baseball and show support for his BHS coach, George Dummar, during the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce (GNHCC) Sports Council’s annual "Hot Stove" gathering Jan. 23, 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. at Branford's Bill Miller’s Castle.
A suggested donation of $10 (at the door) will benefit “Go to Bat for Coach Dummar," an on-going effort to assist BHS varsity baseball coach George Dummar. "Go to Bat" was established last year upon news of Dummar's diagnosis with a life-threatening disease. Proceeds from events and fundraisers help the family defray expenses as Dummar undergoes treatment.
As recently reported in The Sound, following a season in which he made his Major League Baseball debut with the Texas Rangers, Olt garnered another distinction as he was named the organization’s Tom Grieve Minor League Player of the Year on Jan. 7.
Olt's former UCONN head baseball coach, Jim Penders, will also talk at the Jan. 23 Hot Stove event. For more event details, visit www.newhavenchamber.com or find "Go to Bat for Coach Dummar" on Facebook.
