The IRS began processing most personal tax returns this week, the agency said Thursday, after a holdup to update forms and complete programming related to the American Taxpayer Relief Act approved by Congress Jan. 2.
"The IRS expects to receive more than 147 million individual tax returns nationwide this year, including 1.8 million from Connecticut taxpayers," said IRS spokeswoman Dianne Besunder.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns from people claiming education credits in mid-February while taxpayers claiming depreciation deductions, energy credits and many business credits can file in late February or early March.
