2,000-square-foot Winners store opens in Grand Pequot Tower

Mashantucket Foxwoods Resort Casino is opening a new retail location on its Grand Pequot Tower concourse, part of an ongoing revitalization of the property.

At 2,000 square feet, the new site, dubbed "Winners," is five times larger than the space previously occupied by El Pollo Loco, a chain-owned Mexican restaurant that closed months ago. Winners, which features an "Asian snack corner," will sell candy and convenience food and beverages, an assortment of bingo daubers, ticket holders and accessories, health and personal care items, apparel and souvenirs.

The new store is located adjacent to a Panera Bread outlet and in close proximity to Foxwoods' Bingo Hall, which more than 1.2 million players a year visit.

"Winners is now the premier shopping venue for delicious snacks, Foxwoods logo gifts and all things bingo," Annette DeBois, Foxwoods' vice president for retail development and operations, said in a statement. "Our new merchandise assortment provides all of our guests with their last-minute necessities as well as 'grab-and-go' dining options, including our all-new Asian snack corner."

Foxwoods will mark the store's opening Saturday with a Mardi Gras-style parade, starting at 2 p.m. on the Grand Pequot Tower concourse near the Golden Dragon restaurant. Along the parade route, members of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Council and Foxwoods officials will participate in the festivities, which will also include musical entertainment and an appearance by traditional stilt walkers. The Mashantuckets own Foxwoods.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at Winners at about 2:30.

A Foxwoods spokeswoman said the casino was not yet prepared to discuss other revitalizations it has planned.
