Dave Vandal never thought he would play basketball again after enduring six shoulder surgeries and countless hours of rehabilitation, never mind fulfilling his dream of being a walk-on on the UConn basketball team.
Today’s snow storm finally gave me time to write a story about Vandal, a 2008 Stonington High School graduate.
For a sneak preview, watch the attached video of a recent interview with Vandal at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs.
To say the least, he’s thrilled to be a walk-on.
“It’s everyConnecticut’s kids dream to play on the team,” Vandal said. “I remember sitting in the stands with my Dad just watering at the mouth thinking I might be able to get an opportunity at doing this.”
Vandal broke down and cried when informed that he had earned a spot as a walk-on.
He’s a great story and a great kid.
