Connecticut towns getting help with snow removal

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Cities and towns in Connecticut are getting some extra help as they continue clearing snow dumped by the blizzard.

Connecticut Light & Power and Yankee Gas say they're sending crews about 50 pieces of their snow removal equipment to municipalities where roads still aren't completely cleared. And the state Department of Transportation has released the private snow plow contractors it uses so they can help cities and towns.

National Guard troops already are deployed with heavy equipment to help with snow removal.

Many local roads across the state remain partially blocked by snow, especially in the cities. Snow piles have reduced driving lanes, made parking spaces scarce and decreased drivers' sight lines.

Schools in Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport and Waterbury will remain closed Tuesday.
