Branford Public Schools will re-open tomorrow, Feb. 14, after calling school off for four days due to Storm Nemo and days of clean-up and safety work. In addtion, the district is calling back a day off planned for next week.
Tues. Feb. 19, will now be a school day in Branford, rather than the second day of a two-day winter weekend break originally scheduled for Feb. 18 - 19. The change is due to an effort to attempt to "...mitigate the impact of recent closings," explained Superintendent of Schools Hamlet Hernandez in a Feb. 13 issued to parents. School was cancelled Feb. 8, 11, 12 and 13.
In the note, Hernandez also explained the district has now reached its maximum of 10 days for school cancellations due to weather emergencies during the 2012-13 school year.
If additional school cancellations are required, those days will be made up by taking away days which are currently set aside for April 2013 vacation, beginning with April 15, if the need arises.
"It is my sincere hope to avert further closings, however the safety of students and staff shall remain the overarching consideration when school closings are announced," wrote Hernandez.
