Aquarium event to support Stonington Education Funds

Published February 20. 2013 4:00AM

Stonington — The Stonington Education Funds will hold its annual Education Celebration from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Mystic Aquarium.

Tickets are $55 each with food by Ocean Blue Catering and music by 28 Strings.

All of the proceeds from ticket sales and a basket raffle will go directly to grants for student equipment and programs that are not funded in the school budget.

Over the past 15 years, the nonprofit foundation has donated more than $400,000 to the schools. Grants have helped purchase items such as lacrosse sticks, Smart Boards, computers, cameras and stage microphones. They have helped create a sensory garden and supported literature and science programming. More than $70,000 has been donated toward music programs, which is appropriate as the Blue Monday’s Concerts at Mystic River Park each summer are sponsored by the foundation.

Foundation President Paul Sartor said that Saturday’s fundraising event “allows us to continue our labor of love to help bring creative and innovative ideas to life in Stonington schools.” For more information go to www.Stoningtoneducationfund.net.
