Bacon, NFA win ECC girls' basketball semifinals

Norwich — Alyssa Velles’ layup with one minute, 16 seconds left gave third-seeded Norwich Free Academy its 42-40 win over No. 2 Ledyard in Wednesday's Eastern Connecticut Conference girls' basketball semifinals at NFA.

NFA will try to defend its ECC championship Friday when it plays host to top-seeded Bacon Academy (7 p.m.)

The Bobcats beat No. 4 East Lyme in the opener, 60-43.

Olivia Marks had 10 points for NFA (16-5) and Cebria Outlow scored all nine of her points in the second half.

Michelle Klinikowski had 13 points for the Colonels (18-4). They hurt their cause by missing 10 of 15 free throws.

In the first game, Taylor McLaughlin had 15 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists and five steals to lead Bacon (21-1). Sarah Rogers added 17 points, 12 rebounds and four assists.

Colleen Durkee (15 points) was the only player to score in double figures for the Vikings (17-5).
