Friday in Norwich with The Hoolios

Published February 28. 2013 4:00AM

If you're not careful and don't keep up on these things, The Hoolios, one of the area's original and finest roots bands, might surprise you.

Indeed, rumors are that the band's songwriter/leader, Jim Carpenter, has been busy writing and recording demos of new material - and why his existing catalog hasn't become an in-demand commodity with Nashville stalwarts remains a painful mystery.

The good news: you can see The Hoolios and possibly hear new material along with old treasures when they headline the First Friday concert this, ah, Friday at the Donald Oat Theater in the Norwich Arts Center.

The Hoolios, 8 p.m. Friday, Donald Oat Theater, Norwich Arts Center, 60-64 Broadway, Norwich; $20, $17 members; (860) 887-2789, norwicharts.org
