Ledyard boys, Montville girls lose in state quarterfinals

The fourth-seeded Ledyard boys and the No. 7 Montville girls were eliminated in the quarterfinal round of the CIAC Class M basketball tournament on Saturday.

Ledyard, which reached the semifinals a year ago, was beaten at home by No. 5 Valley Regional, 57-51, while the Indians lost on the road at No. 2 Notre Dame of Fairfield, 50-44.

In second-round boys' basketball action involving local schools, No. 5 Old Lyme advanced to the quarterfinals in Class S with a 66-59 overtime win over Nonnewaug while No. 14 Waterford was beaten by No. 3 Bunnell 65-37 in Class S.

Old Lyme will play the winner of a Saturday night game between No. 4 Terryville and No. 13 Haddam-Killingworth on Monday.
