Poll shows improvement for Malloy

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A new Quinnipiac University Poll shows the public's opinion of Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is improving.

Forty-eight percent of registered voters said they approve of the job the Democrat is doing, while 39 percent do not. This marks Malloy's highest approval rating as governor. He took office in 2011.

The survey of 1,114 registered voters, conducted March 7-10, found 67 percent believe Malloy is a strong leader in a crisis. Seventy-six percent approved of his response to the Newtown massacre and 80 percent approved of his response to the February blizzard.

However, only 42 percent said Malloy deserves to be re-elected, while 45 percent disagreed. Voters disapprove of Malloy's handling of taxes and the state budget.

The survey has a margin of sampling error of 2.9 percentage points.
