Mashantucket — The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe officially welcomed two firefighters and a police officer to its tribal departments today.
In a badge-pinning ceremony, Loretto Vara, chief of fire and emergency services, appointed firefighters Daniel Weinberg and Larry Riley.
"It is a privilege and honor to wear our badge and carry on our traditions and I know that these two firefighters are up to the challenge," Vara said.
Marcus Tavares, who spent 20 years with the New Haven Police Department, was sworn-in as a member of the tribal police force.
"Officer Tavares has an extensive law enforcement background which will further complement our department, and his experience in working with youth will be a tremendous asset to our youth programs." William Dittman, the tribal police chief, said.
