The Coast Guard Academy has released its 2013 football schedule and it features seven different opponents from the 2012 season which saw the Bears post a record of 5-4 overall and 5-3 in the New England Football Conference Bogan Division, their first winning season since 2007.
The NEFC will have a brand new look in 2013 and the restructured conference consists of Curry College, Endicott College, Maine Maritime Academy, MIT, Nichols College, Salve Regina University, Western New England University and the Coast Guard Academy. League members will play a round-robin schedule format and the league champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.
The Bears will open the season with a pair of road games at St. Lawrence on Sept. 7 at noon and then at rival Merchant Marine on Sept. 14 in the annual battle for the Secretaries' Cup at 2:30 p.m.
Coast Guard will then play three straight home games including the opener against Hampden-Sydney on Sept. 21 at 1:30 p.m. when the Bears will honor the 1963 team -the only team in program history to finish the regular season unbeaten and untied at 8-0.
The Bears will then host Nichols for Parents' Weekend on Sept. 28th and Western New England on Oct. 5, both games kicking off at 1:30 p.m.
The rest of the schedule has Coast Guard playing at Curry on Oct. 12 at 1 p.m., returning for a Homecoming Weekend game against Maine Maritime on Oct. 19 beginning at 1:30 p.m., on the road for back-to-back road games at Endicott (Oct. 26, 1 p.m.) and Salve Regina (Nov. 9, noon) and then close out the season hosting MIT on Nov. 16 at noon.
Endicott is coached by Niantic native and St. Bernard grauate J.B. Wells. Coast Guard has never played Nichols, WNEC or Endicott.
