Connecticut building permits up in March

Published April 25. 2013 4:00AM

March housing permits in Connecticut topped results last year by more than 30 percent, the latest numbers show.

Permits statewide last month totaled 301, well above the 222 seen last year, according to new Department of Economic and Community Development figures. The good March number helped compensate for a February flop, with permits so far this year almost exactly mirroring last year's statistics.

The 781 permits issued so far this year are the highest seen for the first three months since 2008. Still, building approvals are significantly behind levels seen in the mid-2000s, when March permits were in the 800 range.
