H.S. Tennis Roundup: Waterford tops East Lyme in battle of unbeatens

Top East Lyme in the battle of the unbeatens

Waterford - Matt Getty and Willie Dong both won their respective singles matches as the Waterford High School boys' tennis team beat East Lyme Friday, 4-3, in a match between two unbeaten programs.

The doubles teams of Tucker Murphy and Brett Pias, and James Maryeski and Sean Ryan, also won for the Lancers (8-0).

Surytansh Patel won the No. 1 singles match for the Vikings (7-1), beating Alan Luner 6-2, 6-0. Nick Hotary and the doubles team of Albert Chen and Davis Ping also won.

In other matches:

• Old Lyme improved to 10-1 with a 7-0 victory over Haddam-Killingworth in the Shoreline Conference. Brendan White (6-2, 6-1), Eric Pan (6-1, 6-1), Matt Urbowitz (6-1, 6-2) and Thomas Ward (6-4, 6-2) were singles winners as was the doubles team of Andrew Ganey-Nick Berry (6-1, 6-0). The Wildcats also won two matches by forfeit.

• St. Bernard swept the four singles matches to defeat New London 4-3. Nicholas Zuczek, Chris Renaud, Kevin Peters and Kevin Teskey were all straight set winners for the Saints (4-4). The Whalers (2-6) won one doubles match by forfeit and picked up wins from the teams of Seth Lake-Collin Sawyer and Bahaa Hoda-Wasaam Hoda.

Girls

• Waterford won two of three doubles matches to pull out a 4-3 victory over East Lyme. The No. 1 team of Jessie Hudson-Katie Lewis won 6-3, 6-0 and the No. 2 team of Lily O'Hara-Phoebe Li won 6-4, 6-4 for the Lancers (7-1) as did singles plays Lexi Moger and Nora Sullivan. East Lyme (6-2) won the top two singles matches (Joan Li and Sophia Shi) and the No. 3 doubles match (Rachel Sullivan-Aimee Cicchello), who won the tiebreak for the third set 7-4.
