This election season in Groton City is by far the most uncivil in recent memory with misinformation, insinuation and innuendo leading the way for some of the Republican candidates.
The accusations of dishonest backroom dealings are untrue and offensive. It is unfortunate that TVC failed but Marian Galbraith did the right thing to shed the burden. She came to the council with the bad news and, knowing the political fallout that would ensue, she researched and guided the process that helped get Groton Utilities back on the road to continued financial health.
Some of that fallout came as repeated personal attacks on her character and integrity during public meetings. She showed remarkable poise as she dealt with the criticism and continued to move forward with the city's business. In addition she has shown strong leadership during two hurricanes, a blizzard and the revitalization of Thames Street.
She has worked to preserve and strengthen the services enjoyed by the citizens of the city while reducing the budget in the process. The City of Groton is fortunate to have a strong dedicated public servant in Marian Galbraith and I urge people to re-elect her on May 6.
