New London — Firefighters from the New London Fire Department extinguished a kitchen fire at a two-family home on Franklin Street this afternoon.

Chief Henry Kydd Jr. said the department responded to 23 Franklin St. at 12:47 p.m. All of the occupants were outside the home when firefighters arrived, Kydd added. One man was being treated near the home for smoke inhalation, and investigators were at the scene to determine the cause.

The kitchen is on the second floor of the building.

Should the Guantanamo prison be closed?
No. I believe that information from detainees has saved American lives.
Yes. Pres. Obama said this week that the prison is contrary to who we are and I agree.
No. Keeping the prison running means there are fewer people out there who want to harm Americans and our allies.
What's the wait? Pres. Bush announced he wanted to close it. Obama campaigned on the issue. Why hasn't it happened yet?
I don't know. All of these choices are black and white and don't represent how I feel.
