Pfizer Inc. has announced the closure of an Irish production plant that will lead to 136 job cuts.
The New York-based drug giant said the closure of its Little Island manufacturing plant in Cork was the result of "changing global demand" related to the expiration of key patents and the need to find more efficiencies in production.
Pfizer, which closed a manufacturing facility in Groton several years ago but maintains a a workforce of more than 3,000 here, said production at Little Island was moving to another Irish location at Ringaskiddy.
Pfizer employs more than 3,000 people in Ireland.
