East Lyme — Tyler Grills scored five goals and added three assists to lift top-seeded Stonington past No. 4 Bacon Academy, 16-7, in the Eastern Connecticut Conference boys' lacrosse tournament semifinals Wednesday at East Lyme High School.
Stonington will face No. 2 East Lyme, a 10-5 winner over No. 3 Ledyard, in Friday night's final (7:30), also at East Lyme. The Bears beat the Vikings 7-6 back on April 11.
"(Stonington) got us and played really well in that first game," East Lyme coach Gary Wight said. "We're glad to have them again and are looking forward to the game."
Stonington (14-3) broke the game open with eight goals in the second quarter to take an 11-5 halftime lead.
Will Iorio had four goals and an assist while Jack Riordan had two goals and an assist and Zach Poirier had a goal and four assists for Stonington.
East Lyme, meanwhile, held a slim 5-3 lead late in the fourth quarter when it erupted for five goals in the final five minutes, one by Nick Geary to get things started and then two apiece by Mitchell Andres and Andrew Bernard to finish off the Colonels (11-6).
"Geary scored that first one and then everything started clicking," Wight said. "We really poured it on in those last five minutes.
Andres finished with five goals and an assist for the Vikings (13-4) while Geary added two goals and Evan Long had one goal and one assist. Goalie Greg Swenson added 11 saves.
Kevin Kohlhepp scored twice for Ledyard while Nick LoBianco had one goal an one assist.
