Waterford baseball, softball play in state finals today

Waterford High School's baseball and softball teams will play for state championships today.

A day after the softball team's Class M title game was washed out and moved to Sunday, the baseball team's Class L final was postponed Saturday due to wet field conditions at Palmer Field in Middletown.

The second-seeded Lancers will play No. 4 New Canaan today at 12:30 p.m. at Palmer Field while the 12th-seeded Lancers will play No. 2 Granby in the softball final at 4:30 p.m. at West Haven High School.

CIAC officials were able to make Palmer Field playable for a pair of state title games Saturday. St. Joseph beat NW Regional 2-1 in nine innings for the the Class M crown while Amity beat Southington 4-0 in the Class LL final.
