Stonington - The Democratic Town Committee has endorsed three candidates for the Board of Education race in November while the Republicans will put up two candidates for the four available positions.
The Democrats endorsed two incumbents - Chairwoman Gail MacDonald and member Alisa Morrison along with Terri Stefanski. Current Democratic board member Kevin Bornstein is not seeking re-election. The Republicans endorsed incumbent Faith Leitner and Alexis Garvey. Each party could have endorsed up to four people for the four-year terms.
The other three seats on the board, which are held by Democrats Frank Todisco, and Craig Esposito and Republican Deborah Downie, will be up for re-election in 2015. Democrats currently hold a 5-2 edge on the board.
At caucuses this month, the Democrats also endorsed three-term incumbent Ed Haberek to run for first selectmen as well as Democratic Selectmen George Crouse for the Board of Selectmen.
The Republicans have chosen Selectwoman Glee McAnanly to challenge Haberek and former first selectman Bill Brown to run for selectman.
The two highest votegetters among the two selectman candidates and the losing first selectman candidate will be elected to the two positions on the Board of Selectmen.
