Huskies to play Army football at Yankee Stadium next fall

Published August 13. 2013 4:00AM

Storrs - The UConn athletic department confirmed Monday that the football team has signed a home-and-home deal to play Army, including a game next season at Yankee Stadium in New York.

The game, scheduled for Nov. 8, 2014, will be Army's home game, and the Black Knights will play the Huskies at Rentschler Field the following season on Sept. 12, 2015.

The addition of Army completes UConn's non-league schedule for 2014. In addition to an eight-game schedule in the new American Athletic Conference, the Huskies will play host to Brigham Young (Aug. 28), Stony Brook (Sept. 6) and Boise State (Sept. 13).

UConn's 2015 non-conference schedule features home games against Villanova (Sept. 5), Army (Sept. 12) and Tennessee (Sept. 26), and a road game at BYU (Oct. 31).

Williams suspended

The UConn athletic department announced Monday that Joe Williams, a sophomore running back, has been suspended indefinitely for "violation of team policies."

Williams, according to multiple media reports, was arrested on Aug. 9 by UConn police for alleged credit card theft. He was also charged with illegal use of a credit card and larceny in the sixth degree following an investigation of an incident back on April 12 when a credit card and $60 were stolen from a wallet.

According to a UConn police report, Williams allegedly made a purchase worth $124.90 and had it shipped to his home in North Hampton, Pa.

Williams was battling for playing time as a reserve tailback behind two-year starter Lyle McCombs and was also expected to be in the mix as a kick and punt returner.
