The Connecticut Tigers scored three runs in the fifth, including a two-run single to right field by Ben Verlander - one night after his appearance in the New York-Penn League All-Star Game - and the Connecticut Tigers defeated the Tri-City ValleyCats 4-2.

With one out in the fifth, Javier Azcona tripled to start the rally and Austin Schotts singled to score Azcona, advanced to second on a passed ball and stole third. Dominic Ficociello walked and stole second, allowing Verlander's hit to score both runs. The Tigers were down 2-1 entering the inning.

Alex Phillips pitched six innings to earn the victory, allowing two runs on four hits, and Will LaMarche earned his second save of the season.

Closer Zac Reininger was the winning pitcher in Tuesday's All-Star Game at Dodd Stadium when the American league scored twice in the bottom of the ninth for the 4-3 victory.

The Tigers (25-29) play the ValleyCats in the second half of a two-game series at 7:05 tonight before hosting three games against the Aberdeen IronBirds.
