Sun sign Carter as emergency replacement player

Published August 24. 2013 4:00AM

The Connecticut Sun signed Sydney Carter to a seven-day contract, the team announced Friday.

Carter returns to the Sun as a replacement player under the emergency hardship clause after injuries sidelined Kelly Faris (left foot) and Allison Hightower (strained right knee) for the remainder of the season. She will join the team today and is expected to be in uniform when the Sun face New York at 5 p.m. Sunday at Mohegan Sun Arena.

A 5-foot-6 guard, Carter was first signed as a replacement player on June 11 after injuries to Renee Montgomery and Tan White. She was waived on July 16 after seeing action in six games with the Sun. She averaged 4.5 points, 2.8 assists and 1.7 rebounds in those games, including seven points, eight assists and five rebounds in the win over Tulsa on July 2.

We're a week away from the Labor Day weekend. How do you feel about this?
Not so great. It's the signal I have to hunker down with longer work hours and winterize my boat.
Stunned. How could the summer have flown by so fast?
Great. Can't wait for football and school to start.
What, me worry? I'm not thinking about anything except my Labor Day weekend plans.
