Snapshot of an era

Published August 27. 2013 4:00AM

In the Convenience Era era - when every one of us can be Ingmar Bergman or Margaret Bourke-White simply through our cell phones - it's not just nostalgic but art itself to consider the drawings in FOCUS! It's a new show featuring the works of New London artist Michael J. Peery, and it opens Thursday at the Three Rivers Gallery, Three Rivers Community College, 574 New London Turnpike, Norwich. Peery's large-scale drawings take an intimate look at objects such as old-school cameras - remember them? - and, as such, fondly examine a bygone era of design and function. The opening reception takes place from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, with an artist's talk scheduled for 4 p.m. Sept. 12. Runs through Oct. 1. Hours 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sat.; (860) 885-2603.

We're a week away from the Labor Day weekend. How do you feel about this?
Not so great. It's the signal I have to hunker down with longer work hours and winterize my boat.
Stunned. How could the summer have flown by so fast?
Great. Can't wait for football and school to start.
What, me worry? I'm not thinking about anything except my Labor Day weekend plans.
