It's rather embarrassing, in the proud legacy of punk music, that hardly anyone affords Death its due. The Detroit trio, comprising three brothers, predated the Ramones, Bad Brains or Sex Pistols.
Recently, after the re-release of a long-forgotten tape, Death has started to get the acknowledgment they deserve. The band headlines next week's I AM Festival in New London. In celebration, at 8 tonight in the Hygienic Art Park on Bank Street, there will be a screening of "A Band Called Death" - an astounding film that's part rockumentary and part family dynamic.
Director Mark Covino will be on hand for commentary and a Q&A session - and popcorn, snacks, beer, wine and soda are available for purchase. This is a great opportunity, particularly with the band due in town. The movie is $5. For more information, call (860) 443-8001 or visit hygienic.org.
