The Connecticut Sun will try to salvage the final game of their three-game West Coast road trip when they visit the Phoenix Mercury tonight at 10 (CPTV Sports, NBA TV).
The Sun (7-21) have lost six straight games and nine of their last 10, including a 78-65 set at the Seattle Storm on Friday night.
Connecticut couldn't overcome another sluggish start, trailing by as many as 19 points, including 22-12 after the first quarter.
"We're talking about our defense again and the first half it was just nonexistent," coach Anne Donovan said. "I felt great about the game plan; I felt we had a really good idea of what we needed to do to be successful. However, the combination of taking a lot of quick shots, and not knocking them down, and then not really being focused defensively; you can't really do that against anybody in this league, let alone Seattle.
The Sun did manage to pull within nine points after three quarters, but Seattle (15-14) scored the first five points of the fourth quarter and Connecticut never got closer than 11 the rest of the night.
Center Tina Charles had 18 points for the Sun, but was held to just four rebounds. Renee Montgomery had 15 and Tan White contributed 12.
After tonight's game, the Sun don't play again until hosting the Washington Mystics on Friday night. The Sun will play their final five games against Eastern Conference opponents.
