CD tip: "45 Live"

Roomful of Blues

Alligator Records

Bandleader/guitarist Chris Vachon chose 14 songs for this live CD, a retrospective spanning Roomful's 45-year history, and included some of the group's best known originals - "Dressed Up To Get Messed Up," written by Greg "Ah! We missed you!" Piccolo, and "Turn It On, Turn It Up," written by Vachon. Frontmen and other members have changed over the decades - sax player Rich Latille, who joined in 1970, is the longest-running member of the current group - but the band's distinctive and the larger-than-life instrumental power is just as fabulous as the days of such past musical luminaries as Duke Robillard, Sugar Ray Norcia, Doug James, Al Copley, Porky Cohen, Bob Enos and so many others. Roomful of Blues is having a big hometown record release show for the CD, a showcase of their legendary musical diversity, on Saturday at The Ocean Mist, 895 Matunuck Beach Road, Matunuck, R.I., where they recorded the record.
