Josi Davis and John Van Ness host open mic at Rustic Cafe

Published September 12. 2013 4:00AM

Presumably, it's a good thing when you've got local musical giants like Josi Davis and John Van Ness entertaining in your venue - as they'll do Saturday at the charming Rustic Cafe in East Lyme.

Of course, the pair is hosting an acoustic open mic, which means you can get up on stage and perform. In the context that Josi and John will also do several songs - and will be spectacular, as usual - it might be best to think about the timing of when you get up to sing. As in, let the drunk guy who always warbles a painfully out-of-key version of "I've Got a Name" go first. Then, YOU'LL sound really good.

Actually, the emphasis, when Josi and John host these things, is on quality live performance and musical interaction, and the spontaneity and virtuosity are always rewarding. Bring your instrument!

Josi Davis and John Van Ness,

9 p.m. Saturday, Rustic Cafe, 516 Boston Post Road, East Lyme; open mic; free; (860) 691-0477, therusticcafe.com.
