A harvest of local art

Published September 24. 2013 4:00AM

In my book "The Writer's Guide to Clever Descriptions," unique adjectival magic for capturing the essence of autumn includes phrases such as "riot of color," "blazing foliage" and "He had teeth like candy corn." Fortunately, those invested in the visual arts are far more clever than me. Consider the new exhibition, "Pumpkins & Mums & Gourds, Oh My!," which kicks off Saturday with an artists' reception from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Celebrations Gallery & Shoppes in Pomfret. Nineteen local and regional artists, working in a variety of styles and media, will offer interpretations of the vibrant possibilities of fall - as per the watercolor, here, by David Stumpo. Runs through Oct. 27. 330 Pomfret St., Pomfret Center. Hours 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wed.-Sun.; (860) 928-5492, celebrationsshoppes.com.
