Friends and artists present show in Essex

Creating art is an intensely private and solitary exercise - except when it's not. Consider the group of friends from the Essex Art Association who routinely paint together and whose "7 Artists: Objects and Places" show opens, festively enough, with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. The gallery is at 10 Main St., in Essex, and the artists - Jay Babina, Laurel Friedmann, Renni Ridgeway Korsmeyer, Maryanne Rupp, Sandra Smith, Karen Wiesner and Beverly Schirmeier (whose "Salt Marsh Pottery and Lemon" is shown above) - will be on hand to celebrate and discuss the work.
